Bio

Lexie Leonard (b. 2002) is an emerging photographer from Melbourne, Australia. As a recent graduate, she is developing her photography practice by exploring new subjects and constantly honing her technical skills - through her travels, she has embarked on a personal and professional journey of discovery, initially to an artist residency, then onto more solo trips and working holidays. Through these experiences, she aims to broaden her skills, gain new perspectives, connect with other artists to develop her creative voice. The goal is to strengthen her work for debut publication projects and future exhibitions, while she develops an appetite for visual anthropology to document and illuminate cultural practices from all over the world.

Reflections

Art is intuitive, it's all about feeling through the work you're creating and photography is a great vehicle for such opportunity. I love where photography has taken me, both in education and travel, and how I'm able to execute my ideas - oftentimes it involves a lot of visualisation, powered by connecting to who/what I'm photographing by listening to their stories and learning from their lived experiences. This anthropological take makes the canons delicate and it's that sense of creating something powerful that sets the artist inside me on fire. Photography matters deeply as a means of documentation and story telling, and I'm so excited to see where else it leads me as I delve further into my creative process and bring more of my ideas to life.
